A hair transplant is a medical procedure in which healthy hair follicles are taken from donor areas (typically from the back or sides of the patient’s head), and then transplanted to areas affected by hair loss, resulting in new hair growth and increased hair density and thickness. The two most common methods are FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation).
At Royal Wharf Clinic, we specialise in Sapphire FUE (meaning we use the most cutting edge sapphire tipped tools, allowing for the highest precision while minimising trauma to the scalp). FUE works by extracting the donor hair follicles individually, and then transplanting them onto the affected areas. This method allows for a great deal of precision and accuracy, allowing surgeons to create an incredibly natural look to the patient’s head of hair.
We also specialise in Afro, Beard & Eyebrow transplants, and have performed over 5000 successful surgeries. Get in touch now to find out how we can help you with any hair loss difficulties you might be facing.

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) is a modern and minimally invasive hair transplant technique, and is known for producing excellent results with a short recovery period. With FUE, the surgeon carefully harvests individual hair follicles from your donor area, and then transplants them onto the areas affected by hair loss. Using this method allows the surgeon to be extremely precise, leading to natural and permanent results, with minimal scarring and a fast recovery period.

If you are someone experiencing hair loss, a receding hairline or any other hair related issue, a hair transplant could be the perfect solution for you. One of our hair restoration specialists will have an initial consultation with you to discuss your issues and concerns, as well as assessing your donor area viability (this can be either the back or sides of the scalp). As long as your donor area is viable, you are likely a good candidate for a hair transplant. As long as your donor area is viable, you are likely a good candidate for a hair transplant.
This will depend entirely on which hair related issue you are dealing with. During your initial consultation, our hair restoration specialist will assess your hair and scalp, and after having a discussion with you regarding your preferences and goals, we will work with you to create a personalised treatment plan.
How many grafts you will need will depend on the severity of hair loss that you are experiencing. Our experienced hair restoration specialists will be able to quickly assess this, and will provide you with the full details as part of your personalised treatment plan.
Yes, our team of hair restoration experts is led by our Medical Director, Dr Shaan Mahmood (MBBS), who is renowned for creating completely natural results. Combined with our specialisation in FUE and cutting-edge technology, we ensure every transplant delivers results that look indistinguishable from your natural hair.
Yes – a hair transplant is considered permanent, because the transplanted hair follicles are taken from areas of the scalp that are genetically resistant to hair loss (typically the back and sides of the head). Once transplanted, these follicles retain their resistance to hair loss and continue to grow in their new location for the long term.
However, it’s important to understand a key distinction:
The transplanted hair is permanent, however your existing, non-transplanted hair may continue to thin over time. For this reason, a hair transplant is often combined with ongoing hair loss management, such as medication or non-surgical treatments, to protect surrounding hair and maintain a natural, balanced result as you age.
At Royal Wharf Clinic, every transplant is planned with a long-term approach, considering future hair loss patterns, donor availability, and maintenance options so your results remain natural and sustainable for years to come.
Results vary depending on individual genetics, age, hair loss progression, and overall health. A consultation is essential to determine suitability and long-term expectations.
All of our hair transplants are performed under local anaesthesia, and most patients only report mild discomfort during the procedure.
RWC patients need to take a 5 day course of antibiotics after the procedure and it is highly recommended to continue long term finasteride and minoxidil.
FUE does leave tiny circular scars when harvesting the hair follicles from your donor area, however these are typically covered by the patient’s hair, and far less noticeable than the linear scar left by FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation).
We will need to trim both your donor area and your recipient area before your procedure. Unshaven FUE is an option, but even in this procedure the donor and recipient area will still need to be trimmed, with the rest of the hair being left untouched. However this also carries a higher risk of infection, increasing the duration of the procedure and is more complex to perform.
The recovery period from FUE is typically faster and less uncomfortable than other hair transplant procedures. Typically, patients find they are able to return to work within 3-5 days. However patients should expect some scabbing and itchiness in weeks 1 – 3, with new hair growth beginning to show around 3 – 4 months after their procedure.
Our patients often find that they are able to return to work within 3 – 5 days.
New hair growth typically begins to show 3-4 months after the procedure has been completed, with results being clearly evident in months 8-12.
Our team of specialists will provide you with a detailed pack of aftercare information, as well as a saline spray. You will also be provided with 12 months of aftercare support, including follow up appointments to track the progress of your new hair.
Our prices start at £3000 + VAT, and vary depending on the complexity of the issue, how many grafts will be needed etc. Book a consultation with one of our specialists to find out how we can help you!
