Eyebrow tattoos take many forms, using different tools and techniques to deposit pigment to the skin below the brows. Options like microblading and nano brows use a blade to produce fine, hair-like strokes, while ombre and powder brows use a machine to replicate the appearance of powder-filled eyebrows. However these options are often painful, even with numbing cream, and if not performed by an experienced therapist can sometimes become infected.
While the word tattoo suggests these are permanent eyebrow modifications, all of these methods tend to fade, lighten, and discolour after 1-2 years, requiring touch-ups and reapplication frequently. They also leave you with no option to easily change your eyebrow shape outside of attempting to conceal the tattoo with makeup or removing the tattoo completely by laser.
While this semi-permanent option became very popular in the 2010’s, today it is not uncommon to see people removing their eyebrow tattoos. Common reasons for removing eyebrow tattoos tend to revolve around wanting to change the brow’s shape, being dissatisfied with the healed results, and the tattoo’s shade and colour appearing unnaturally harsh, discoloured, blurred, and faded.
Eyebrow lamination is essentially a perm for your brows, similar to a perm you can get on your hair. This process uses chemicals to straighten, lift, and redirect the shape of the existing brow hairs. This process can be paired with an eyebrow tint, which dyes the eyebrows a darker colour to better match the hair on your head, and to give the illusion of thicker brow hair.
Eyebrow lamination is a temporary option, typically lasting 4-6 weeks. While this means it is easier to change the appearance of your eyebrows as desired, it also means costly monthly upkeep. Eyebrow lamination is also often unable to work on empty, thin, and sparse patches of brows, meaning if part of the brow is missing, lamination cannot provide a solution.
Non-surgical brow lifts can be done in many ways, but are most commonly achieved using anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, or PDO threads. As the name suggests, these methods all lift the brows from beneath the skin in a short, minimally invasive procedure. This can change the shape of the natural eyebrows by adjusting where they sit on the face, and how high the arch and tail of the brows are.
While this method can adjust the way the eyebrows sit on the face, it does nothing to affect the actual structure and appearance of the brow itself. A non-surgical brow lift does not increase the density of brow hairs, cover empty patches, or change the actual shape of the eyebrows.
A non-surgical brow lift is a temporary option, and the longevity of the results depends on the method. For example, the results from anti-wrinkle injections last around 3-4 months, while fillers can last up to 18 months. Regardless of which method is used, every kind of non-surgical brow lift requires relatively consistent, costly upkeep.

The Aftercare for an eyebrow transplant is very simple, but it is important that you follow the provided instructions to see the best results.
Typically, you’ll be asked to keep the area clean, avoid touching the area and to take any medication and supplied sprays within the times set by your hair restoration surgeon. We also ask that you avoid strenuous exercise and high-temperature environments (for example, saunas) for the first 24 to 48 hours.
Most side effects are mild and temporary, including redness, swelling, tiny scabs, and brief shedding of transplanted hairs. Rarely, patients may experience ingrown hairs or minor folliculitis, all of which resolve with proper aftercare.
